Green Ecolution at the Gelehrte Gläser 2026

At the Gelehrte Gläser science format we presented Green Ecolution in the middle of Flensburg's city center, over a drink and in direct conversation instead of a lecture hall.

“Science for everyone” is the motto of the Gelehrte Gläser, which translates roughly to “scholarly glasses”. Instead of inviting people into a lecture hall, researchers go where people like to sit anyway, into the cafés and bars of Flensburg’s city center. Anyone who feels like it can listen in over a drink and then talk to the researchers directly. The format is run by CIVU, the Europa-Universität Flensburg, the Flensburg University of Applied Sciences and the Duale Hochschule Schleswig-Holstein. On 30 June 2026 the talks spread across the city center from 3:00 to 8:00 pm, two per venue.

Smart irrigation at Lille Lykke

Green Ecolution was a guest at Lille Lykke on Norderstraße at 4:30 pm. Together with Simon Olberding, under the title “Green Ecolution: Smart irrigation of urban green spaces”, I showed what the project is about: soil moisture sensors capture what happens below the surface, and the readings turn into irrigation plans and routes for everyday operations. The test sensors for it already sit in Flensburg’s soil.

A few streets away

The trees the talk was about stand just a few streets away. Formats like the Gelehrte Gläser create that closeness, so a warm thank you goes to the organizers.
